Viva Voce?
Viva |
| Lab / Research Presentation |
Q: "Why did you choose this topic?"
"This topic emerged from a gap I identified in the literature—while
there is substantial research on [Topic A], few studies have examined
[specific angle]. Given the growing importance of [context],
I believed this gap warranted systematic investigation."
Q: "What is the main contribution of your research?"
"My research makes three contributions. Theoretically, it extends
[X Theory] to the context of [new setting]. Methodologically,
I apply [method] to a dataset that has not previously been used for
this purpose. Practically, the findings have implications for
[practitioners/policymakers] seeking to..."
Q: "Why did you choose [qualitative/quantitative] methodology?"
"I chose a qualitative approach because my research question is
exploratory in nature—I aimed to understand how participants
construct meaning around [topic], which quantitative measures
cannot capture. Semi-structured interviews allowed me to probe
beyond surface responses while still maintaining some structure."
Q: "What are the limitations of your methodology?"
(Mitigation):
示例:
"A key limitation is the sample size of [N], which limits
generalisability. However, I deliberately prioritised depth over
breadth given the exploratory nature of the study. Additionally,
I employed triangulation—cross-checking interview data with
[documents/observations]—to strengthen validity."
Q: "What surprised you most about your findings?"
"I was surprised to find that [Finding X], given that existing
literature suggests [Opposite Pattern]. This may be explained by
[contextual factor], which previous studies did not account for."
Q: "How do your findings relate to [Author X]'s work?"
"My findings broadly support [Author]'s argument that [X].
However, I found that [nuance/difference], which I attribute to
[methodological difference / different context]."
Q: "If you could redo this research, what would you do differently?"
"In retrospect, I would have included [longitudinal data/larger sample/
additional control variable], which would have strengthened the
causal claims. I would also have triangulated with [additional method]."
The evidence suggests..." / "It appears that..." |
Under the assumption that X, it follows that..." |
While I acknowledge that..., I would argue that..." |
That's a thought-provoking question. My initial thinking is..., although I would need to examine this further." |
|---|---|
| "That's an interesting question. Let me think for a moment..." |
| "Could you clarify what you mean by...?"
| "Could you rephrase the question?" |
"I understand your point, and it raises an important consideration.
However, based on [evidence/reasoning], I would maintain that [your position],
because [justification]. That said, I acknowledge there are different
perspectives on this."
第四部分:Viva 准备 Checklist(考前 1 周)
Pass/Pass with Minor Corrections/Major Corrections/Fail
